Exhale Core Fusion Barre + Cardio: It's what all the skinny girls are doing..
..but it's certainly no joke.
I attended Exhale's Core Fusion Barre + Cardio class through classpass this week. I did so in place of my normal hot yoga Wednesday recovery day thinking that it would be sensitive to my already sore muscles.. HA!
Boy was I wrong.. every part of my poor body was shaking like a Polaroid picture..
The Rundown: Most NYC studios are located inside of Exhale Mind Body and Spa's which are luxurious, serine spaces fully equip with beautiful decor, lockers, showers, hot towels and trendy yoga apparel. But don't be fooled by the zen spa ambiance you enter into this place will make you leave feeling like you need to book one of their massages.
The Class: Core Fusion Barre + Cardio is a 60 minute strengthening and fat-burning class that sculpts your muscles and is meant to get your heart rate up. Like most barre classes it is high rep/low weight (mostly body weight) with boosts of cardio mixed in between. The first 15 minutes are all cardio, think 16 reps of 5 sets of of mountain climbers, plank jacks, side planks, push ups and modified burpees leaving you in a pool of sweat right off the bat. This is followed by low weight/high rep arm series in a yoga-esque flow. We then hit up the barre, utilizing our small ball and burnt our legs until they could no longer stand upright. The final portion of class is always abdominal work, followed by a most deserving juicy stretch.
Know before you go: Grippy socks, yoga pants are required Most studios have showers/offer spa amenities (except for the SOHO location) Water ($2) and hot towels are available
You will sweat, shake, and smile. This class will lengthen and tone you from the inside out.
Instructors are super friendly and helpful, correcting postures and imbalances.
You'll feel the burn all the way into the next day.
But will you survive? YES! Don't feel shy to take breaks, it's not the most comfortable feeling to have your muscles vibrating like a buzzer.. you'll be better for it in the long haul.
