When it comes to resolutions, I’m not usually one for the whole “new year, new me” spiel. Rather, I like to reflect on the past year’s highs and let that ride into new goals and intentions.
Last year was the year of the bucket list races. It’s kind of hard to match 2016’s highs. 2016 started off with 39.3 magical miles during the runDisney Goofy Challenge, followed up with my first unicorn in Boston, and ended with the most epic party NYC ever hosted at the NYC marathon.
Aside from race successes, reflecting back it’s hard not to use running as a metaphor for 2016. It was a year of stepping out of my comfort zone, in more ways than one. Taking on a ton of new challenges. Discovering new passions. Experiencing many highs, as well as some lows. Realizing “hard work makes good luck” and having a hell of a time running through the journey and finishing stronger.
Needless to say, 2017 has some *major* shoes to fill…
So what have I been doing to make shit happen?
I’ve been doing exactly that, making shit happen.
1. Plan: For starters.. my race 2017 race calendar thus far is pretty major.. aside from doing the NYRR 9+1 program again I am already signed up and qualified
for Boston in April, Chicago in October and NYC in November. That’s right, this year I am running all 3 US World Major Courses, and I could not be more excited!
2. Attitude: “Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength” read this quote by Sigmud Freud the other day and it really hit home. There is so much truth to the fact that by allowing yourself to be vulnerable, you are recognizing your full humanity. This year is the year of giving zero fucks. I’m really trying to get out of my head to step out of my own way. Fall down 7 times, stand up 8. Am I right?
3. Execute: With the proper plan and attitude, I’ve been able to make the most out of every moment.
